There was certainly a rocket start for Nintendo’s new Mario Kart game, as free to start mobile offering Mario Kart Tour sped to a whopping 90 million downloads within its first week.
To put that in context, it’s six times as many downloads as enjoyed by Nintendo’s second best performing mobile game Animal Crossing Pocket Camp, which managed 14.3 million downloads in its first 7 days. Needless to say, that makes the kart racer Nintendo’s fastest mobile launch yet.
As for revenue, Mario Kart Tour had to settle for a bronze medal behind Fire Emblem Heroes and Super Mario Run, banking $12.7 million compared to $28.2m and $16.1m resepctively.
The bulk of that spend - 76% - came via iOS users, despite the game garnering 17 million more downloads on Android devices. Regardless of the platform however, it’s fair to say that Mario Kart Tour has had an unquestionably successful launch.
How’re you finding the game? Let us know down in the comments.
