Reviews
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is an excellent Nintendo Switch port with the mountain of content contained in the initial release all present and correct. Long-time Crash fans will be more than happy with what’s on offer, a continuation of the series they love that introduces some excellent new ideas.
At its core, there’s a really fun arcade brawler within WWE 2K Battlegrounds. Everything just feels a little half-baked.
Make no mistake, Paper Mario: The Origami King is a superb game. Unfortunately, the hangover of past games in the franchise prevent it from realising its full potential, and the game instead lands in the ‘thoroughly recommended’ category.
Unfortunately The Otterman Empire just feels incredibly unpolished - having the air of a very early alpha build rather than a final product. Movement is unpleasant, combat can be largely irrelevant at times, and it all comes wrapped in a rather visually unappealing package.
Streets of Rage 4 proves itself worthy of the name through incredibly satisfying combat and a host of goodies and easter eggs that fans of the franchise will be delighted with. Where it excels though is in forging it’s own identity.
Ganbare! Super Strikers does a pretty good job of translating the beautiful game to a tactical RPG. Matches can be a little slow and drawn out, and there’s not a lot to keep you coming back again and again, but it’s nevertheless an enjoyable experience for the most part.
Skellboy is unquestionably a good time. The unique artstyle brings this well constructed world to life in a fantastic way, and there’s plenty of rewards for players who investigate away from the game’s main path. The central story thread is too loosely woven through the game’s progression and thus doesn’t carry the payoff it’s aiming for, but there’s no doubting the fun to be had exploring and inhabiting this idiosyncratic little world.
Football Manager 2020 Touch is not without it’s flaws, but beneath the relatively superficial gripes, is the managerial behemoth that has more than earned its stripes over the years. The level of detail you can drill down to is nothing short of miraculous.
It doesn’t offer much in the way of challenge, but there’s so much fun and variety in the obstacles on offer that you’ll relish every moment. If you’re looking for a simple but enjoyable little adventure, The Touryst is well worth booking.
Sparklite sets itself apart from others in the genre by creating a captivating world and narrative that left me wanting more from Ada and Geodia.
Monkey Barrels is a great dual-stick shooter that does enough new and interesting things to make it stand out in the genre, while massive amounts of replayability and tight core gameplay make this a stellar effort for developer Good Feel’s maiden solo outing.
Anthill is a solid tower defence game that’s full of the characteristic polish you’d expect from Image & Form.
Ultimately, One Night Stand is an entertaining recreation of ‘the morning after’ and does well to recapture the awkward feeling of trying to relive the previous night’s escapades while frantically trying to remember the name of the person lying next to you. A fun and unique premise within the point-and-click genre.
If you’re after a budget pro controller, then the Gioteck WX4 could be right up your street. While it lacks the premium feel of Nintendo’s official pad, it also lacks the premium price tag, making it a decent option for anyone looking to add an extra controller without breaking the bank.
