Animal Crossing New Horizons Complete Museum Fossil List
This article was originally written for TheNintendoVillage.com, a website I founded and ran from 2018 to 2021.
Of all the impressive things about Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the museum is arguable the most impressive. And if you ask us, the most impressive part of the museum is the fossil room.
In this guide we’ll explain how to find those elusive fossils, and give you a complete list of every single one in the game. We’ll also give you their sell prices so you know which ones will make you money, and a picture of every completed exhibit so you can work out which ones you’re missing.
How To Find New Fossils
As you wander around your island you’ll come across little star patches in the dirt. You can dig these up to find a fossil, which you can then take to Blathers in the Museum for assessment. Even if you have a completed museum, you should always have your fossils assessed before you sell them. A freshly dug fossil sells for a meagre 100 Bells, whereas assessed fossils can sell for anywhere between 1,000 and 6,000 Bells.
As well as the fossils found on your own island, you’ll occasionally come across ones on the Mystery Islands you access by using a Nook Miles ticket at the airport. If you’re looking to fill your museum quickly, trading with friends and heading on a few of these trips is the best way to go about it.
How Many Fossils Spawn Each Day
There are four fossils to find on your island each day. The day essentially ‘resets’ at 5am every morning, meaning you’ll have a fresh batch of fossils to find, along with a fresh supply of wasps to catch, furniture to be found in trees, goodies to be gained from rocks, and so on.
The fossils found on the Mystery Island Tours spawn every time you go on, so you can potentially find extra fossils by going on multiple trips. You’ll have to luck out with the island you land on though.
There are a total of 73 fossils to find in the game, which make up 35 different exhibits within the museum.
