Mario Maker Monday - 23 September 2019
This article is part of a series originally written for TheNintendoVillage.com, a website I founded and ran from 2018 to 2021.
A variety of different stages for you this week. You’ll have to get radical in our own ‘Thwomp Surfin’’ stage, while Nintendo have shared a brilliant Ganondorf-themed level in honour of the launch of Link’s Awakening last week.
Lastly, your submission comes from ReMeH this week - the second time we’ve featured one of his courses in Mario Maker Monday as it happens - and it’s an incredibly well built stage that will really put your Mario skills to the test.
We hope you enjoy this week’s selection, and be sure to submit your own stages at the bottom of the page too!
Nintendo Village Stage
Stage Name: Thwomp Surfin’
Stage ID: R19-MJR-GJG

Surf’s up Mario! We came across a stage that had a tiny section where you had to ride a Thwomp across a gap, and we figured we’d take the idea and build an entire stage around it!
You’ll have to be ready to avoid spike blocks and enemies in this 3D World-based course, as you ride those Thwomps all the way to the goal. Radical!
Villager’s Choice
Stage Name: Zelda Ganon’s Castle

With the launch of Link’s Awakening last week, Nintendo shared a whole bunch of Zelda-themed stages for us to check out. This one featuring Ganondorf’s giant head was our favourite.
There’s some clever puzzles to solve, an interesting pseudo-boss battle, and a couple of fun diversions that make you smile when you find the real solution.
Plus that Ganondorf head looks so cool.
Community Stage
Stage Name: Trials of the Forest Palace!!

This is the second level we’ve featured from ReMeH and it’s a doozy. ‘Trials’ is definitely the right word because although this is no kaizo stage, there were a couple of sections that took us far too long to master.
It’s mainly clever platforming areas to make your way through, but each section has its own particular theme or characteristics - such as a spike maze you need to be in a dry bones shell to beat, or timed switches to climb your way to the top of a platform.
It’s a ton of fun (despite our lack of talent leading to some frustrations in places) and wholly well built, so thanks for sending it our way ReMeH!
