We may be able to create our own 2D Mario games these days, but that doesn’t mean Nintendo is done making their own.

Nintendo Life have done some sleuthing on the Big N’s jobs page and discovered two listings for level designers that make reference to both 3D and 2D action games. There’s no way to know that these are explicitly for a Mario game of course, but we’d be surprised if Nintendo weren’t working on a new game for the portly plumber. It’s been a couple of years since Super Mario Odyssey dropped after all.

As noted by NL, the 2D one is particularly interesting as the accompanying image is awash with examples of previous 2D Mario games.

Aside from Super Mario Maker we’ve also had a port of New Super Mario Bros U arrive on Switch, but it’s been a while since we had a brand spanking new 2D Mario game to sink our teeth into. Fingers crossed the hunch is right and we’ll be running to the goal pole once again before too long.
