It Doesn't Look Like An N64 Mini Is Happening Any Time Soon

Both the NES and SNES Classic Mini consoles sold like hot cakes, so it’s no surprise Nintendo fans were hoping for an N64 variant to follow suit. We’d all love another way to play the likes of Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time after all. We even put together a list of the games we’d like to see on it.

It appears that we’ll be waiting indefinitely though. Living up to his name, NOA President Doug Bowser has put a dampener on things, saying Nintendo are focused on their ‘dedicated platforms’ at the moment.

In an interview with The Verge, he explained that the focus for classic experiences going forward will be on Switch, and Switch Online:

“Our focus right now is absolutely on our dedicated platforms such as Nintendo Switch Lite and our flagship Nintendo Switch. I think with the gameplay experiences you saw with some of our classic consoles that we launched a few years ago, they’re now available on Nintendo Switch Online, and this is where our focus will be.”

It’s a shame that there doesn’t appear to be an N64 mini in the works. That said, if the focus on Switch Online means that we’re going to be getting some of those classics on Switch at some point in the near future, we’re more than happy with that.

Would you rather have N64 games on your Switch, or another plug-and-play console? Let us know down in the comments.
