The long-awaited save transfer option for Animal Crossing: New Horizons is finally arriving with the game’s latest free update.

The winter update for the game arrives on 19 November and, amongst other things, will let players transfer their save and island data from one Switch console to another. There’s two options available, one of which allows you to transfer a single resident (along with their name, appearance, equipment, home and storage) to a new island on a different console. The other is a full island transfer shifting the entire save file, including all the residents, to a new console. This will be done via a free Island Transfer tool which will be available on the eShop.

Nintendo promise more information at this page shortly, though at the minute there’s little detail besides the aforementioned arrival date of this new feature.

As for the game itself, the update brings with it a host of new additions for you to enjoy. There’s the Turkey Day event which tasks the player with providing Franklin with cooking ingredients on 26 November, whilst Toy Day on 24 December brings some Christmas cheer to the game. There’s a host of festive items involved, as well as the ability to shower your island residents with gifts.

The festive items will be on sale at the Nook Stop from 1 December, and there’ll also be several festive items to celebrate New Year’s Eve available from 26 December too.

Elsewhere you’ll be able to trade your hard-earned Nook Miles for some new reactions, as well as a selection of new hairstyles, all of which you can see in the video below. Plus, you can expand your storage for all those new goodies to 2400 slots at Resident Services, and also choose to visit any random island in dreams for design inspiration.

As is tradition, Nintendo signed off the announcement with the news that the next update will be arriving in late January.
