Gamescom Moving To A Digital Event

Despite the cancellation of events such as GDC, E3 and EGX, there was hope that Gamescom, which usually takes place in Germany in the middle of August, would survive the pandemic and take place as usual. Organisers were hoping so, and were due to make a decision in mid-May.

That decision has now been made for them as the German government has announced that all large-scale events will be banned until the end of August in a bid to combat coronavirus. With well over 300,000 visitors each year, Gamescom undoubtedly falls into that category.

Whilst there has been no official statement from the event’s organisers as yet, they have acknowledged the new restrictions and put out a tweet confirming that a digital event will be held:

As you can see, there’s more details to be revealed as yet. We’ll let you know as soon as they are.

Were you hoping to attend Gamescom this year? Let us know down in the comments.
