The Outer Worlds finally drops on Switch later this week, and publisher Private Division have revealed what Nintendo fans can expect from the game performance wise. The game has suffered a few delays, but it seems the postponement has been worth it.
Speaking to Nintendo Everything, the publisher has revealed that the game is shooting for a solid 30fps and 1080p in docked mode, and aims for a solid 720p in handheld. That’s pretty impressive, but considering the company behind the port is Virtuous - the same folks who handled the ports of Dark Souls, LA Noire and more recently Bioshock - it’s perhaps not all that surprising.
Virtuous’ Production Director Eric DeMilt also spoke to Nintendo Everything about the challenges of porting a game like The Outer Worlds to Nintendo’s hybrid device, saying:
“Porting a game with thousands of assets designed to be loaded and displayed on current gen PCs and consoles with the power to display in 4k made streaming and visual fidelity a challenge on a handheld.”
Despite that, Obsidian are “very happy” with the way the game “looks and plays”, and there’s even some Switch-specific functionality included too. Gyro controls have been added to help with aiming, and some settings are available for players to tweak themselves.
It sounds like it’s shaping up to be yet another solid current-gen port for the Switch. Let us know if you’ve been waiting for this version down in the comments below.
