Goldeneye Remaster Gets Hit With Cease And Desist
This article was originally written for TheNintendoVillage.com, a website I founded and ran from 2018 to 2021.
You may recall back in October we covered a fan-made remaster of Goldeneye 007. Goldeneye 25 was shooting to release in 2022 in time for the game’s 25th anniversary (hence the name) and had been totally reworked in the Unreal engine.
Unfortunately, the Bond licence holders have now kindly asked the guys behind the game to stop what they’re doing, which they are of course complying with.
It’s not all bad news though, as the team are reverting to their plan B. This always being a possibility, they’re now stripping out any reference to Bond and instead making it an original work under the tentative title ‘Project Ianus’.
In an update on his YouTube channel, Yannick Zenhäusern explained what had happened, detailed the plans for the project going forward, and even hinted that they can now release the game on consoles. It was originally going to be available on PC only.
It’s a shame that we won’t get to revisit Goldeneye in wonderfu, HD glory, but Project Ianus will certainly be one to keep an eye on going forward nonetheless.
