Nintendo Submit New FCC Filing For Switch With New Chip

Following on from the reports earlier this week that Nintendo are planning on launching a new Switch model in 2021, it’s now been discovered that Nintendo have filed a Switch revision with the Federal Communications Commission.

The filings show hardware revisions, including a new SoC (system on a chip) and new memory, as well as a new CPU board to accommodate the new components. Here’s an excerpt from Nintendo’s application describing the changes:

"This is to request a Class II permissive change for FCC ID: BKEHAT002, originally granted on 04/18/2017 and all its permissive changes. We changed the following points from the original model.

- Change of SoC

- Change of Memory

- CPU Board is changed due to the above two components”

This would appear to support rumours from earlier this year that Nintendo were working with Nvidia on a new custom chip for the Switch, based on Nvidia’s Volta architecture, and gives further credence to the idea of a “Switch Pro” model arriving sometime next year.

Let us know down in the comments whether you think this indicates a Switch Pro could be on the way!
