Smash-hit rocket-car footy game Rocket League is moving to a free-to-play model, and it’s happening next week.
With the move to free-to-play, anyone who’s played the game beforehand will be awarded ‘Legacy’ status, and receive a bunch of extra content including all Rocket League-branded DLC released before free-to-play, "Est. 20XX" title that displays the first year you played Rocket League, 200+ Common items upgraded to "Legacy" quality, Golden Cosmos Boost, Dieci-Oro Wheels, and a Huntress Player Banner.
The relevant updates for existing players are available to download now, whilst the game will be available free-to-play on 23 September. Players can also link their game to an Epic account to access cross-progression when the game hits the Epic Games store the same day.
You’ll also no longer need a Nintendo Switch Online account in order to play the game online. In case you were unaware, the game also features cross-play, meaning you can play with your friends regardless of whether they’re playing on Switch, Xbox or PC.
