It Looks Like Overwatch 2 Won't Be Launching This Year
This article was originally written for TheNintendoVillage.com, a website I founded and ran from 2018 to 2021.
Whilst Overwatch arrived on Switch in 2019, the shooter’s Nintendo debut was quickly followed by the announcement of a follow-up, also Switch bound.
Whilst there had never been an official release window, many players may have been hoping to see the game this year given there was no further news in 2020. However, during Activision Blizzard’s Q4 earnings call, Dennis M. Durkin, the company’s Chief Financial Officer and President of Emerging Business, revealed that Overwatch 2 won’t be surfacing in 2021:
“Our outlook does not include Diablo IV or Overwatch 2 launching in 2021.”
For those wondering, although we of course saw a port of Diablo III on Switch, there’s currently been no indication that the next game in the series will follow the dungeon crawler onto the system.
Were you hoping to see Overwatch 2 this year? Let us know down in the comments.
