Reggie Reckons Cloud Based Gaming Is The Future

Cloud-based gaming is becoming more and more of a thing lately, with Microsoft’s xCloud and the recently launched Google Stadia leading the way for game streaming. The Switch itself has even been able to stream some games (provided you live in Japan), with the likes of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Resident Evil 7 available via the cloud.

Former Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime thinks the innovation isn’t going away, and sees it becoming somewhat of the norm over the next ten years as the technology and supporting infrastructure improve.

He spoke to the Hollywood Reporter at the Game Awards last week - where he also presented the Fresh New Indie Game award - about the technology:

“As the technology evolves to be cloud, and as download speeds increase, what it means is you're going to be able to play any game on any device at any time. It will happen over the next decade and will be something that’s really meaningful to players.”

We don’t think ‘on-premesis’ games consoles are going away any time soon, bt the recent innovations in cloud-base gaming are certainly interesting to watch.

Would you be open to a shift to streaming on a future Nintendo platform? Do you think countries as large as the US will ever have equivalent infrastructure to Japan in order to support such a service? Let us know down in the comments.
