Nintendo Files New Mario & Luigi Trademark

AlphaDream, the developer behind the Mario & Luigi series, may have folded last year, but thankfully it doesn’t appear like that will be the end for the franchise.
Let’s Go Digital have unearthed a new trademark filing for the franchise, filed by Nintendo of America in Argentina earlier this year, for:
“Computer game cartridges; game memory cards; computer game software; video game memory cards; interactive entertainment software to play video games; covers for mobile phones.”
AlphaDream filed for bankruptcy back in October, but it seems Nintendo are moving quickly to shore up their IP for the Mario & Luigi franchise.
The last game to release, the *ahem* briefly-titled Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr’s Journey massively underperformed and likely led to AlphaDream’s closure. But as a remake released on the 3DS when the Switch was already off and running, it’s unlikely an indictment on the series as a whole.
It remains to be seen whether Nintendo will opt for another remake or create an entirely new entry in the series, but it’s good to see they’ve not forgotten about the franchise completely.
What would you like to see from a new Mario & Luigi game? Tell us all about it down in the comments!
