Nintendo Rules Out Switch Pro In 2020

There’s been all sorts of rumours flying around lately about the possibility of a Nintendo Switch Pro, not least because Microsoft and Sony have got new systems on the way this year and many feel Nintendo needs a more powerful system to keep pace.

Not that the Switch is struggling to sell right now, having shifted 52 million units in total worldwide. A solid chunk of those sales are from Switch Lite, and Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa has told investors that Nintendo plan to continue to push both the Lite and the OG Switch for the forseeable future, ruling out any new hardware this year:

Regarding Nintendo Switch, we believe that it is important to continue to communicate the appeal of both Nintendo Switch systems and expand the installed base. Please note that we have no plans to launch a new Nintendo Switch model during 2020.

So, no Switch Pro for us in 2020. That’s not to say Nintendo won’t refresh the hardware next year once the PS5 and Xbox Series X have taken ahold of the market, but we’ll have to make do with what we’ve got for the time being.

If you do fancy a refreshed Switch though, you could always check out the gorgeous Animal Crossing New Horizons Switch Nintendo revealed earlier today.

What do you think about Nintendo’s hardware strategy for this year? Are they doing the right thing or do you reckon they’ll need a Switch Pro before too long? Let us know down in the comments.
