The DICE Awards, one of the most prominent peer awards ceremonies in the games industry, have awarded their Game of the Year to Untitled Goose Game. Yup, the baddest poultry in town has nabbed the prestigious award ahead of many bigger titles released by major studios.

The Goose also managed to take another two awards along with the top prize, claiming Outstanding Achievement for an Independent Game, and Outstanding Achievement In Character. We assume for the farmer, naturally.

Not that Untitled Goose Game was the only Switch game to take home an award. Nintendo won a few themselves, with Fire Emblem: Three Houses awarded the Strategy/Simulation Game of the Year gong, and Luigi’s Mansion 3 (rightly in our view) won Outstanding Achievement in Animation.

There was also a nod for Super Mario Maker 2 in Family Game of the Year and, despite the controversy around it’s pricing model, Mario Kart Tour came up trumps in the Racing Game of the Year category.

Another indie darling Baba Is You won Outstanding Achievement in Game Design, the twice-delayed Outer Worlds - which will hopefully finally be dropping on Switch in the next month or so - also took home Role-Playing Game of the Year, and Mortal Kombat XI claimed the Fighting Game of the Year crown.
