Jim Carrey On Sonic's Redesign

The Sonic the Hedgehog movie dropped last weekend, and had a pretty successful opening couple of days. In fact, some estimates put the box office tally at a resounding $100 million. That’s some pretty impressive revenue!
Ben Schwartz, the voice of Sonic in the movie, shared the news on Twitter, noting that it’s the biggest opening weekend for any videogame movie ever, a title briefly held by last year’s Detective Pikachu.
There’s no doubting that some of the film’s success is due to the goodwill generated among Sonic fans when the movie’s producers decided to go back to the drawing board and redesign the titular hedgehog following a less than stellar reaction to his initial look.
Jim Carrey, the man in the role of Sonic’s nemesis Dr. Robotnik in the film, had expressed some initial trepidation about the redesign, but now believes it turned out for the best, telling Fox New that:
“I think it turned out to be a great thing. I think it turned out to be a co-op where everybody was in on the creation. I think everybody felt good about it ultimately because Jim Fowler [the film’s director had] no ego involved at all. He just went ‘these people grew up with it, and it’s important to them that we get it right.’ And I think it was just a much better movie because of it.”
Have you seen the film? Did you think it did the blue blur justice? Tell us all about it in the comments!
