Wonderful 101 Confirmed For Switch

Update 4 Feb: Two new stretch goals have been added. A Time Attack mode, should the Kickstarter hit $1m, and a brand new, 2D side-scrolling adventure entitled ‘Luka’s First Mission’ that requires $1.5m to be given the green light. The project has been backed by over 14,000 people already as of this update, so we wouldn’t rule out those stretch goals being met.

Original Story: Well, the many rumours were true, Wonderful 101 is indeed being ported to Switch, with Platinum Games seeking funding for the port via Kickstarter.

The action title has been at the top of a lot of people’s most wanted ports for a while now, and it seems that Platinum has answered those requests. Despite the recent investment from Chinese tech firm Tencent though, the developer has opted to publish the game themselves, hence the need for crowdfunding.

Fans don’t seem to have balked at the request though, with the kickstarter meeting it’s goal inside 10 minutes, and the total pledged standing at 10 times the initial request of $50,000. That huge support has meant that the stretch goals required for Steam and PS4 releases have also been met.

The campaign video is well worth a watch, as it hilariously sees famed director Hideki Kamiya headbutting a werewolf in a bid to get the project made. Don’t ask. One backer reward also gives you the opportunity to be blocked by Kamiya on Twitter, joining the many many people who have previously met his wrath.

PlatinumGames Inc. is raising funds for The Wonderful 101: Remastered on Kickstarter! PlatinumGames' classic Unite Action Game, self-published and heading to multiple platforms!

Here’s what the developer says about the project:

The Wonderful 101 is a game that represents our passion for making games and dedication to quality, and one that we want to reach as many people as possible. Now, with the support of Nintendo, we have been given the opportunity to bring this game to the Nintendo Switch and other platforms as well! This is an amazing opportunity, and an important step toward our goals.”

There will reportedly be more stretch goals revealed at a later date too. Platinum’s new website has also been updated, showing the Wonderful 101 Remastered as the first of four upcoming projects.

Are you backing Wonderful 101? Excited to give the game a second shot on Switch? Let us know down in the comments.
