Yacht Club Far From Done With Shovel Knight

With the recent release of Shovel Knight Showdown - and with it the completion of Treasure Trove and a five year development cycle - you’d be forgiven for thinking Yacht Club were ready to move onto something new.

True, there’s the upcoming Shovel Knight Dig, being developed in conjunction with Bomb Chicken developer Nitrome, but they’re also publishing Cyber Shadow by Mechanical Head Studios. If you thought that signalled a move away from more shovelry, you’re apparently mistaken.

In a recent episode of the Nintendo Power podcast, Treasure Trove artist Sandy Gordon, and director Sean Velasco expressed their enthusiasm for more games featuring the blue-helmed hero, with Velasco staying that they’re “gonna keep making Shovel Knight stuff forever and ever and ever.” You can check out the podcast in question below.

It’s hard to think of a more iconic indie character, he’s one of only a handful who have showed up in Smash (as an assist trophy), so it stands to reason that Yacht Club would want to keep him front and centre of their plans going forward.

What kind of games would you like to see Shovel Knight take time in future? Or would you prefer Yacht Club explored new characters altogether? Let us know down in the comments.
