Nintendo Not Worried About Xbox Series X Or PS5

Following last week’s release of Nintendo’s financial results, the company has today dropped a transcript of the investor Q&A. One point that was raised was whether or not the imminent release of the next gen systems from Sony and Microsoft will have an impact on Switch’s sales going forward.
In the Q&A - translated by VGC - Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa acknowledged the upcoming impact on the industry, stating:
“We will explain the specific figures for the next fiscal year in our next fiscal year announcement, but I think there will certainly be a change in the environment as new products of our competitors appear!
That said, he also reiterated his belief that Nintendo’s target audience differs enough from Microsoft’s and Sony’s that “we do not believe that the business trends of other companies will have a significant impact on our business.”
He’s likely right too. A recent NPD survey revealed that 40% of Switch owners also own another system, meaning Nintendo’s hybrid console has successfully carved out a ‘second-system’ niche all of its own. This was something we highlighted in last week’s episode of P Myth Gaming, which you can view below.
Do you think Nintendo should be more worried about the PS5 and Xbox Series X? Or do you agree they’ll be quite alright ploughing their own furrow? Let us know in the comments.
