Sakurai Has A 'Blank Slate' After Smash DLC
This article was originally written for TheNintendoVillage.com, a website I founded and ran from 2018 to 2021.
74 base characters, six more via DLC and another half dozen to come. Needless to say, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has required an awful lot of work from Masahiro Sakurai and his team, and will continue to do so as they wrap up the Fighters Pass Vol. 2 DLC.
That may take a little longer than envisaged thanks to coronavirus concerns, but it seems that once that’s done, Sakurai is not currently tied down to any specific project. Speaking in his 600th column for Famitsu magazine, he’s revealed (via a translation courtesy of Nintendo Everything) that it’s a ‘blank slate’ so far as what he does next is concerned:
“Right now, all I can think about is producing DLC for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. After I finish that, though, it’s a total blank slate.”
Hopefully the guy will take a well-earned rest before diving into something new, but we’ve long hoped for a follow-up to the excellent Kid Icarus Uprising here at Nintendo Village.
What sort of things do you hope Sakurai turns his hand to after he’s finished with Ultimate? Answers on a postcard to the usual comment section.
