More Nintendo IP Being Remove From Dreams
This article was originally written for TheNintendoVillage.com, a website I founded and ran from 2018 to 2021.
You may recall a few days ago that a player of PS4’s Dreams had his Mario-themed content pulled due to a copyright infringement. Nintendo had reportedly objected to the use of their IP on Sony’s platform (which makes sense) and thus user ‘Piece of Craft’ had his Mario asset pulled.
It now appears that that was part of a larger move on Nintendo’s part to have all content that infringes on their IP removed from the game. According to a statement given to GamesIndustry.biz, Sony are systematically removing any content featuring Nintendo property:
“Sony Interactive Entertainment is notifying the affected users that an IP Infringement Notice has been received from Nintendo and that the content will be removed. We cannot comment on volume of content to be removed, this is done on an individual case-by-case basis.”
So there you have it. It won’t be long before you’ll have to pick up a Nintendo console (or a smartphone) if you want to play Nintendo content once again. Such is life eh?
Have you been playing/creating any Super Mario content in Dreams? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments!
