Wonderful 101 Stretch Goal Has Kamiya Thinking Of Viewtiful Joe

The Wonderful 101 Remastered, being the wildly successful Kickstarter project it is, has naturally hit a number of stretch goals throughout it’s campaign. One of those was a new spinoff challenge entitled “Luka’s First Adventure”, which sees players take on the role of one of Wonder Red’s school students in a 2D action platformer.
Those of you who hear ‘Hideki Kamiya’ and ‘2D action game’ and immediately think ‘Viewtiful Joe’ aren’t alone either. Kamiya himself, in an interview with Destructoid, has found himself looking back at the first entry in his ‘hero trilogy’ too:
“[Luka’s Adventure] could have been a shooting game or a 3D action game, but we eventually decided on a 2D action game starring Luka. And like you said, when the fans heard “2D action game” and “Kamiya”, they immediately started talking about Viewtiful Joe, so now I’m actually thinking about that. I’m thinking (holds hand to his chin) ‘Hmmmmmm, could we do something like Viewtiful Joe again?’ Of course, I can’t promise anything, but for now, I really hope fans of Viewtiful Joe enjoy Luka’s side-story in The Wonderful 101 Remastered.”
This isn’t the first time the classic series has been mentioned by Kamiya recently either. During a panel at PAX East he encouraged fans who’d like to see a third entry in the series to email Capcom and let them know there’s some real desire for the time-shifting hero to make a comeback.
