Super Mario Bros. 35 Is A Super Mario Battle Royale
This article was originally written for TheNintendoVillage.com, a website I founded and ran from 2018 to 2021.
In one of the more unexpected announcements from today’s Super Mario 35th Anniversary Direct (though perhaps not the most surprising) was Super Mario Bros. 35 - a new battle royale game based on the original Super Mario Bros. game.
Available exclusively to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, the game sees you compete - fittingly - against 34 other players as you run through, what seems to be the standard version of Super Mario Bros. The catch is that every enemy that you kill gets sent to one of your competing players’ game, and vice versa.
The goal is to be the last one standing (or running), or, presumably, the first to complete the game.
It’s a crazy twist on the classic platformer and we can’t wait to give it a go. It’ll be available to Switch Online subscribers from 1 October but only for a limited time, with it becoming unplayable from 31 March 2021.
