Bandai Namco developed fighting game Pokkén Tournament is one of a number of Wii U games that was ported to Switch and brought increased sales numbers as a result.

Indeed, the DX version of the game still maintains an active player base and was well-received by critics, the fighting game community and Pokémon fans alike. As a result of that, Tekken Director and producer of Pokken Katsuhiro Harada was recently asked on Twitter what the chances were of a follow up.

Pleasingly, he responded positively, saying he’d be would like to work on a sequel following the positive response from the first game:

As he points out though, despite Bandai Namco’s strong relationship with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, the decision on whether or not a Pokkén Tournament 2 sees the light of day is out of their hands.

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Pokémon franchise, with New Pokémon Snap coming to Switch in April the only major 2021 release we’re aware of so far. Who knows, perhaps Nintendo and The Pokémon Company will announce a new Pokkén game later in the year as part of the celebrations.

Would you like to see a new Pokkén Tournament game? Let us know down in the comments.
