Netflix Is Ending On Wii U and 3DS

This article was originally written for TheNintendoVillage.com, a website I founded and ran from 2018 to 2021.

Netflix is still strangely absent from the Switch, and it now appears that Wii U and 3DS owners who use those systems to access the streaming service will have to find a non-Nintendo platform to watch their favourite shows later this year.

Nintendo removed the app from both eShops at the end of 2020, and the service will shut down entirely by July according to the statement on Nintendo’s official website:

“The Netflix app was removed from Nintendo eShop on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS Family systems on Dec 31st, 2020. They are no longer available for new users to download. It is possible for existing users to re-download these applications at this time. Service for both applications will be discontinued on June 30th, 2021. Thank you for your support of these applications over the years.”

We hope you’re not someone who still relied on their Wii U to watch stuff like The Witcher, and we definitely hope for your own sake you never had to rely on your 3DS to access Netflix at all!
