The eerie figure seen in the new Zelda trailer could be Ganondorf

We’re still reeling from the surprise reveal of the Breath of the Wild sequel at the end of Nintendo’s E3 Direct. But after watching it several hundred times, we’re increasingly convinced that none other than Ganondorf himself will be cropping up when the next entry to the series drops.
In the trailer below, we see Link and Zelda entering an underground chamber of some description, where they come across a *ahem* delightful-looking mummified figure.
At first glance, it looks like one of the monks that you find at the end of the shrines in Breath of the Wild. Then it looks kind of like a ReDead, but it’s a bit of an epic trailer for a simple zombified magical clay monster. Looking even closer, there are a ton of characteristics that potentially point to this being the King of the Gerudos.
First off, there’s an image depicted in the hieroglyphics that looks strikingly similar to ol’ ginger chops. You’ll get a clear view if you pause the trailer 18 seconds in:
But the figure itself is dripping in both jewelry and symbols that are eerily reminiscent of the Dark Lord. The cloth that wraps around him could quite easily be his cape and features the Gerudo symbol. The headpiece is strikingly similar to the one Ganondorf has worn in previous titles, and there’s even a pair of earrings that are akin to those worn in the likes of Twilight Princess too.
It’s difficult to tell from the trailer whether the hand on his chest is pinning him there or bringing him back from the dead. I’m thinking the former, and the way the hand is away from his chest when the cave lights up (revealing a shadow that’s basically just Demise’s silhouette — pause at 45 seconds to see it) seemingly backs that assumption up.
Needless to say, we — along with everyone else — will be poring over this trailer over the coming days. Any clue as to what this sequel entails must be furrowed out! For the time being though, our hype has gone into overdrive. And if Ganondorf is indeed the big baddie awaiting us in this follow-up, then it’s already shaping up to be all kinds of awesome.
