Marty Stratton "Stunned" By Doom Eternal On Switch

Doom Eternal got delayed last year, with the game now dropping on other systems later this month with a Switch version to follow a little later. The reason for the extra delay on Nintendo’s platform is to give id Software - and their port partners Panic Button - time to make sure the game is the best it can be on Switch.
In an interview with US Gamer at PAX East last week, id’s Marty Stratton gave us an update on how things are progressing on that Switch version, and it sounds like it’s going well:
“We really haven't talked about dates or anything - I can say that I played it about a week ago, and I am stunned. Our partner on that, Panic Button, I've referred to them many times as masters of the platform, and they're proving it again. I really think it's gonna surprise people.
We’re having it come out later because we want to do the right job with it, we want it to be the highest quality version of the game on the Switch. [We] don’t want to be compromising in any way.”
It appears to be going beyond just avoiding compromising though, as Panic Button are working to redesign the game’s menus and interfaces to ensure they can be well read on the Switch’s smaller screen:
“They have a whole team of UI artists. It is a small screen, so there are times we pack a lot of information onto the screen, but yes. Menus, UI, the dossier—a lot of adjustments across the board to make sure that, again, it is the best possible version you can get on the Switch.”
It’s great to hear that the port is progressing well, and that it’s going to be tailored to the needs of the platform too. We’re certainly inclined to agree with Stratton that Panic Button are ‘masters’ if past form is anything to go by! Hopefully Doom Eternal will be worth the wait - we’ll all be playing Animal Crossing on 20 March anyway so we don’t mind a bit of a delay to get things perfect. Let us know if you’re holding off for the Switch version down in the comments!
